The idea behind the SBC Crew Challenge presented by DC at Powder Mountain Heliskiing And Catskiing was simple: find a unique location, build a private snowboard park, invite four of Canada’s top film companies—Sandbox, Alterna, Brothers Factory and 8 Mile—to document their crew shredding the features over four days and put together a short video edit and enough great photos to fill two magazine spreads each. And the stakes are high—the winning edit voted on by readers through Facebook “Likes” on its Snowboardcanada.com video page will win a surf trip for the whole team in Costa Rica through Beach Travellers, based out of Vancouver.
The decision to partner up with DC and Powder Mountain Heliskiing And Catskiing couldn’t have been anymore perfect. Not only did each of these two amazing sponsors play an integral role in making this event such a success, they each brought a unique offering to the table to make sure it got the recognition it deserved. There is no place in Canada that has the accessibility to terrain and the park-building capabilities as Powder Mountain Snow Cats and its sister company, Camp of Champions. So after three weeks of building features, monitoring the crazy forecasts and having daily progress meetings, we were ready to start. And even though the weather didn’t really want to cooperate, we all just viewed it as an extra part of the challenge. Big thanks to Powder Mountain’s Gord Calder and Bailey Mitchell and DC Canada’s Trevn Sharp for helping make this happen and to Beaver Valley Snow Parks' Caleb Bosse for initial concepting on some of the Crew Challenge features.
