Burton Canadian Open Preview

Feb 2, 2012

Author: Taylor Evans

The fourth annual Burton Canadian Open is going down this week at Calgary Olympic Park (COP) running until February 4th. It's part of the Burton Global Open Series, which also stops in New Zealand, Europe, and of course, the US Open in Stratton Vermont.

A $72,000 USD prize purse will be up for grabs in Calgary for the top male and female riders in slopestlye and halfpipe. The Burton Canadian Open rewards, and continues to remain committed to offering equal prize money to both male and female competitors. A cheque for $ 10,000 will be written out to the winners of the slopestlye and halfpipe competitions. Valuable points are also up for grabs this week in Calgary for the TTR World Snowboard Tour. The Burton Canadian Open is a 5 Star TTR event, which means that the winners will earn a total of 850 points counting towards their TTR World Ranking.

What makes the Burton Canadian Open, so exciting is the fact that a relative dark horse can come out of nowhere, and win it all. This list of past winners, and top ten finishers, over the past three years includes a mix of household names, and up-and-comers.

With improvements being made to the halfpipe (now longer) and slopestlye courses (larger jumps and starting higher up on the hill) this year the Burton Canadian Open will certainly be the most exciting to date.

Live webcasts of the event can be found on Snowboardcanada.com. Here's the schedule:
