The sleepy town of Nelson, B.C. is no stranger to the world's best riders. But this week, the amount of talent assembled and staged in the area awaiting the Red Bull Supernatural event at Baldface was downright ridiculous. The list of invited riders spanned legend status to rookie of the year and every spot in the middle. As the brainchild of Travis Rice, this event definitely carried his calling card. A course that only these guys would want to drop in on awaited them and what ensued will be one for the books.
At day's end it was Travis who was crowned champion with Gig Ruf and Nicolas Muller rounding out the podium. Some highlights of the day included John Jackson's Double Cork 1080 on the bottom kicker which earned him best trick, Devun Walsh's FS 3 pillow tap at the bottom section and Lucas Debari launching off a platform that was built for a heli evacuation.
“We’re walking away with a different state of mind," said Rice, of the event. "This was an experiment and it’s the beginning of a new, possible future for snowboarding."
With a full feature airing on NBC Saturday March 31, you'll have to wait to see any full runs until then, but for now enjoy the pics from Snowboard Canada senior photographer Jussi Grznar below.
