Whistler, BC – Monster Energy’s The Shred Show kicked off last night in Skier’s Plaza with the 5-star TTR Big Hip Invitational as part of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard festival. Keeping up with its 15-year tradition of hosting the biggest events on Saturday night, the festival saw thousands of spectators gather around to see who would win the $25,000 prize purse up for grabs.
Drawing in riders young and old, everyone from Rube Goldberg, David Fortin, Mikey Ciccarelli and Darcy Sharpe battled it out in the 2 round elimination, all vying for one of ten spots in the superfinal.
In the end, 16-year-old Darcy Sharpe took the win thanks to his Frontside 10 Double Mute, Backside 7 and Backside 9. When asked what’s he going to do with his $15,000 Sharpe said, “Buy a 2002 BMW.” While he’s not a fully licensed driver yet, he does have his learner’s permit.

Mikey Ciccarelli not going slow.

Rube Goldberg doesn't always do Big Hip contests but when he does he prefers monster back one tails.

Jon Versteeg nearly ended his night with a bail but came back to take 3rd and a novelty cheque.

If your selling a 2002 BMW, Darcy Sharpe may soon be in touch. He's got $15,000 to spend.

Mandatory podium shot. L-R Jon Versteeg, Darcy Sharpe and Antoine Truchon.
