2013 Trent Riverside Rail Jam

Rodney James double knee grab chucking.

February eighth 2013 under bluebird skies Trent University held their fifth annual Riverside Rail Jam sponsored by Wild Rock and Steam Whistle. The event has normally been held in spring, with hopes of tee shirt riding temperatures. However this year organizers decided to push the date up hoping for more natural snow and less arena snow farming. Hats off to the snowboard gods! 2 days prior to the event it snowed 2 feet.
The course was jammed packed with features. After dropping in on the 2 tear scaffolding most riders where choosing to hit the pole jam style culvert. Everyone was going big off the culvert thanks to a cushy landing. Lots of grabs and 360’s where going down, all culminating with a front flip off courtesy of Rodney James.

The second tear of the course was also dialed. Since the iconic Trent flatbar turned out to be very sticky, riders where hitting the down tube to showcase their handrail style skills. Lots of boardslides and blunts where going down. A new fixture this year for the Rail Jam was a big hip style jump into a spine with a slideable top. There were lots of options on this baby for riders to get creative and go big.

After 2 preliminary jam style heats, judges could narrow down the field for finals. Veteran Rail Jam competitor Jordan Stockdale had this to say. "finals where very different this year because of all the snow. Usually you can stick to your banger rail tricks, but with guys going big and throwing flips, you have to change up your game plan."

Finals saw a 4 way battle to climb atop the podium. Danimal Mowgli lead the charge and was attacking every feature with Travis Puckerin hot on his heels and floating mad shifty 3’s off the culvert. Rodney James was also in the mix throwing everything upside down from underflips to front flips and several rodeos. However it was Harrison Long with his “outside the binding/full commit” style that won over the judges and the top podium spot. Dan Mowgli took second, Travis Puckerin ended up in third, and Rodney James took home the best trick title launching a slow floater rodeo.

Big thanks go out to the event sponsors Wild Rock and Steam Whistle, as well as all the volunteers and organizers. A great day was had by all. See you next year!

2013 Olympus Photographer Showdown Finalists Announced

The OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF) in Whistler, BC is the world’s preeminent action sports photography event and an unparalleled celebration of still imagery. Arguably the most popular event at WSSF, the OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown invites five of the top action sports photographers in the world to compete for the title of “Best in Show” and a grand prize of $10,000 cash.

The OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown is a celebration of the commitment it takes to build a portfolio of images. As such, each photographer will submit a nine minute slideshow compiled of their favourite photos selected from their entire body of work. Anything goes at the OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown, from ski and snowboard photography to surfing, biking, skateboarding, climbing and lifestyle. The slideshows will be presented in front of a sold out audience of 1,500 people on Thursday, April 18 at the Whistler Conference Centre.

THE 2013 OLYMPUS PRO PHOTOGRAPHER SHOWDOWN FINALISTS INCLUDE:

Andy Wright

Andy, who has been snowboarding since the mid-80s, has been a Senior Staff Photographer for TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine for over 10 years. After a short career as a professional snowboarder in the 1990s, Andy has spent the better part of the last 15 years behind the lens where he has documented some of the sport’s most era-defining movements, and shot with nearly every influential rider that has come and gone during that time. Andy is now a resident of Portland, Oregon and keeps a winter home in Utah which he returns to whenever there is time off from the global chase for snow.

Bryan Ralph

Bryan is a 35 year old Ontario native who moved West in 1998 to attend Ski Resort Operations and Management at Selkirk College. During his time in Nelson, BC he borrowed a camera from his parents and started taking pictures for fun with his classmates. In 2006 Bryan’s professional career as a photographer began to take off as his work started getting published more and more. He now shoots as much as possible while working fulltime with Freeride Entertainment.

Chris Burkard

Chris is from the coastal town of Pismo Beach in central California and is currently a Senior Staff Photographer for Surfer Magazine. At 26, he has already worked with over 40 national & international publications as well as a broad range of advertisers including Patagonia, Quiksilver, Volcom, and American Airlines. Chris has served as a Senior Staff Photographer for Water Magazine and Surfline.com, and has been a photo editor for West Coast Surf Magazine. He most recently published a coffee table book with Chronicle Books titled, “The California Surf Project,” which documents his 50 day journey down the California Coast in a VW bus.

Darcy Bacha

Darcy is a 25 year old action sports and lifestyle photographer hailing from Rhododendron, Oregon at the base of Mt.Hood. Darcy believes “creating something that didn't exist a moment before is the most rewarding aspect of photography,” and he cites that as the main reason he picks up his camera every day. Darcy enjoys “influencing the form of an object with the use of controlled lighting,” and believes this is the most important part of his photography. When not taking photos, Darcy can be found on the river flyfishing for steelhead.

Oskar Enander

Oskar grew up in Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden, but for the last 11 years he has been based in Switzerland and Engelberg. He cites his big push into ski photography as the moment when he won the Powder Magazine Photo of the Year in 2003 with his first photo submission ever to any magazine. Today Oskar submits to numerous publications worldwide and works with clients such as The North Face, Patagonia and Peak Performance.

The winner of the 2013 OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown will take home the grand prize of $10,000 for Best in Show and for the first time ever will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their images in State of the ART. All runner-up photographers will receive $1,500 cash as an appearance fee.

The Quiksilver Banked Slalom went down at Grouse during KnowShow, with a slew of shreds like Chris Rasman, Kevin Sansalone, and Travis Williams along with a bunch of the Canadian snowboard industry killing it. Quiksilver treated everyone afterwards to a ton of wings and beers. At the end of the day, it was Travis Williams in first, 2nd went to an unidentified Grouse Park Crew member in second and Kevin Sansalone in third.

Trent Riverside Railjam 2012

Trent Riverside Rail Jam 2012

Trent University held their 4th annual Rail Jam on Saturday. After several days of balmy weather it was looking like even the half dozen arenas in town would not be able to support the amount of snow needed. Luckily there was a hockey tournament in town over the weekend, so organizers could take advantage of the extra snow produced. After many hours of shoveling and multiple truck runs the setup was ready to go.

The event drew a good contingent of riders. A field of about 30 riders took to the setup in several jam style heats before it was narrowed down to a smaller number for finals. Even though it was the flatbar seeing most of the action some riders ignited the crowd using the box as a kicker and boosting. A small number of riders decided to tackle the tricky Red Bull feature. Only a few could muscle down the kinks. They where rewarded with a trip to the finals.

After some course maintenance, things where set for finals. With the live music blasting in the background Hot tub full of people, and the beer garden pumping things started to heat up. Most riders stuck to the flatbar where things where getting tech. The day saw some pretty epic bails as well. The lack of snow made the features quite high off the ground. Local Peterborough rider Tyler Jakins took a few spectacular bails no one thought he would walk away from, before locking his back three to fifty. Not to be outdone Matt Preston put down a front 3 back one out, to take the best trick title.

By the end of the finals riders where sliding across a giant grass gap and landing in what was now brown slush. Geoff Bowler didn’t seem to mind getting dirty. His consistency and style put him atop the podium claiming his second Rail Jam victory. Big thanks go out to all the volunteers who helped shovel and sponsors, Wild Rock Outfitters, Red Bull, Union Bindings, Forum, Roto Spa, and Trent University for hosting yet another great end of season Rail Jam.

The course was a little brown but the riders didn't seem to mind.

The box turned into a kicker half way through the day.

UPDATED: The Canadian Shield Blue Mountain: Contest Update

UPDATE:

"Stay calm, this update is still (for the most part) positive! Due to the unseasonably high temperatures Blue Mountain has been experiencing we will be making significant changes to our event scheduling and course for this coming weekend. In order to preserve the existing snow and construct a brand new course, practice will no longer be offered on Thursday March 22, 2012. Practice time will still be made available to athletes in advance of their qualifying runs. At this time, the new course will be located under the Silver Bullet chairlift on Smart Alec, just above the main village. Based on the available snow on the neighbouring two hills we are realistically expecting to be able to offer competitors the following three decks; two of the decks will consist of two rails each, and one deck will consist of a medium-sized terrain park jump. The course will be a hike up only for Friday's contest with the hopes of having access to a chair lift on Saturday. We appreciate your understanding and commitment to the tour as we are all truly committed to making this the best event possible based on the conditions and weather. For any further questions about timing please check our homepage <a href="http://www.THECANADIANSHIELD.ca/>">www.THECANADIANSHIELD.ca"

Toronto, ON – The fourth and final stop of the 2012 Canadian Shield Ski and Snowboard Slopestyle tour is
quickly approaching. Blue Mountain in Collingwood, Ontario will play host to the tour finale from March 22-24,
and will see another $20,000 cash purse handed out. The final stop will also include the crowning of the 2012
overall tour champions during the awards ceremonies following each competition day.

With Ontario experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures this month, the onset of spring riding conditions
has come upon us earlier than expected. Luckily, Blue Mountain has been stockpiling snow supplies all season
and has assured contest organizers and participants that there will be a condensed slopestyle course ready for
this weekend. Park staff will be consistently grooming, maintaining and fertilizing the course throughout the
competition to ensure the best possible riding conditions. Event organizers have made a few modifications to
the competition scheduling in an effort to ensure all competitors have the opportunity to compete on the
course in its best possible state. The pro & am categories will now be practicing at 8:00 a.m. on their
competition day, followed by their qualifying runs to begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. The rookie categories will
compete directly following the pro & am qualifiers and each competition day will end with pro & am finals.
For all the current event details and scheduling refer to
thecanadianshield.ca

There is a plethora of exciting things taking place at the Blue Mountain stop of The Canadian Shield Tour. One
of the most anticipated components will be the presentation of the tour titles to the competitors who have
earned the highest number of tour points throughout the four-stops. The overall standings are by no means
set in stone and many categories are still open for the taking heading into the Blue Mountain stop.

On the line for the pro category is a 7-day surf trip to Eldorado Surf Resort in El Salvador. Currently Warren
Williams is in the tour points lead for the pro men’s division, however his lead is narrow and several riders
including Ryan Manning, Craig Gouweloos, Chris Collard and Craig Beaulieu could easily change the rankings if
they place well. Similarly in the women’ s pro snowboard rankings, Jenna Blasman current holds the lead
ahead of Natalie Allport, Gillian Andrewshenko and Samm Denena. Jenna has placed first at the two tour
stops she has attended this year, so another strong performance could capture the title for her. The only
certainty heading into the fourth and final stop is that the battle for the podium and the remaining tour points
will be a must see at Blue Mountain on Friday March 23.

Whistler, B.C. – With only 1 month to go until the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, Whistler is snow-soaked and raring to go. Showing the world why we’re the number one North American ski resort is our favorite pastime, and we revel in the immense amount of talent that Whistler breeds, and attracts. A perfect example is the multimedia competitions at the festival. As the preeminent action sports photography contest in the world, the OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown is an unparalleled celebration of still images and of the commitment shown to build a body of work that captures time and captivates the human spirit. Photographers from around the globe were invited to submit a 3 minute slideshow of their chosen photographs, of which 5 have risen to the top as the 2012 TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival Pro Photographer finalists. This year’s submissions included a mixed bag of snowboarding, skiing, surfing, mountain biking, skateboarding and BMX photography, and were judged by a selection committee comprised of key industry figures. The five finalists all receive $1500 as an appearance fee, and will duke it out on April 19th at the Whistler Conference Centre, when they each present a 9 minute slideshow of their life’s work, set to music. The sold out event is a festival favorite, and the audiences involvement comes in the way of the People’s Choice Award, an audience voted bonus prize of $1000 to one of the finalists. The specially chosen judging panel of industry experts will select the Best in Show winner, and the grand prize is a staggering $10,000. Past winners have included such pictorial superstars as Jordan Manley (2009), Brian Beilmann (2010) and Blake Jorgenson (2011).

ADAM MORAN - adammoran.com

Adam Moran grew up in the East Coast on the icy slopes of NH, VT and Massachusetts. Snowboarding has been a part of his life since he was 8 and that passion eventually landed him a job at Burton snowboards after finishing college. He worked his way up from the factory store to Global Team Manager and has spent years working with riders like Shaun White and Terje Haakonsen. With hundreds of days a year on the road with the Burton team, his relationships with the riders shows through in his photography, for which he always aims to present it from a documentary point of view. His travels have taken him around the world many times to places like Kamchatka, Russia to Hokkaido, Japan filling up passports while on his commute to work. These days Adam lives in Southern California and works as Team Photographer for Burton Snowboards.

BRIAN NEVINS - briannevins.com
Hailing from Hampton, NH, it's been over a decade of around the next corner adventures, adrenaline rushes, eye opening moments and humbling convictions for Brian Nevins. He began by producing editorial features for action sports and adventure magazines, which led him to a career that paints the pictures of athletes and musicians; and the ultimate recognition that, for him, it's all about the story. His photography style was molded from years of deep snow, reeling ocean perfection and the characters that told the tale along the way and as a Brooks Institute graduate, Surfer Magazine freelancer at large and co-instigator for getinthevan.com, Nevins has experienced the art of photography from all angles.

CAMILLA STODDART - camillastoddartphotography.com
Raised in Scotland, Stoddart was part of a keen skier family after 4 years at a top London Art School, studying Theatre Design, she shunned the city life and fled to the mountains in search of snow. Ending up in Wanaka, New Zealand, with no real intentions to become a photographer, she candidly brought her much-loved camera to the snow and started taking photos of friends as a way to document the trips. Meeting the right people at the right time paved the way for Stoddarts first published photographs and suddenly she found herself on the back end of 9 back-to-back winters between Verbier, Switzerland and Wanaka, NZ. Deciding to try out a summer for size, Wanaka was the ultimate rejuvenation location and she tried her hand in at photographing other action sports such as mountain biking and BASE Jumping. Currently residing in NZ, she is enjoying the variety of lifestyle and photography opportunities that the island provides.

JEFF PATTERSON - pattersonimages.com
Jeff's love of snowboarding at an early age drew him into a lifestyle that has held his attention for more than 20 years. A staff photographer for Snowboard Canada Magazine and regular contributer to many more. At age 35 his photos grace the pages of magazines around the world, and he has no plans for this to slow down. For the past Five years Jeff has called Squamish home, sharing his time while not travelling or on snow with his wife and soon to be "on snow" Son.

SCOTT SERFAS - scottserfas.com
In the world of professional snowboarding, Scott Serfas is one of the most prolific photographers on the scene. With over 20 Transworld SNOWboarding (TWS) covers to his credit and countless pro athlete careers launched through his lens, to say Serfas is influential on the snow scene is an understatement.

His success hasn’t just been in the snow universe. In the past year Serfas has won the Commercial Photo of the Year from American Photo Magazine and a TWS Cover he shot was recognized as a winning photo in PDN’s (Photo District News) Great Outdoors Photo Contest. However, it will likely be Serfas’ role as principal photographer for the highly acclaimed film “The Art of Flight,” that will launch his snowy images onto the mainstream stage.

Groms Park Series - Supporting the Future Now

While Travis Rice and the Red Bull Supernatural event at Baldface, B.C. last weekend provided a mind blowing glimpse of snowboarding's future evolution, the Ontario Groms Park Series at Beaver Valley provided an equally exciting look at some of the kids who might help lead the charge sooner than later.

Ninety-five riders cheered each other on this past Sunday, February 5 at Beaver Valley's Paradise Progression Park while shredding an awesome selection of small to intermediate sized boxes, jumps, hips and rails. The youngest rider was 4 year old and the oldest 14. The biggest age group was the 9-10 year olds who displayed an amazing bag of tricks that would make most older shreds jealous.

Ten year old Caelan Abbott air over the up-down box, Beaver Valley progression

The Groms Park Series is for the now gen of snowboard kids who don't want to be forced to ski first. It's for the kids who have the new generation of mini-shred gear that makes it so easy to ride from the time they can walk. The Groms Series is a grassroots fun series for young, developing riders who want to try their first park event, through to intermediate youth riders who are shifting beyond the progression park. It's for kids age 4-15 who are participating in their local resort/club's snow school program and are ready to have fun shredding with lots of other snowboarders of their age or ability while getting their first taste of slopestyle competition.

Grom Girls 8 & Under winner, Andie Gendron, Beaver Valley progression park

And for all of the frustrated shred parents out there, the Groms Park Series is especially for you and your kids. So when your local resort says that they will teach your kids to ski at age 4 or 5, but they won't teach them to snowboard until age 6 or 7, or when they advise that kids aren't allowed in the park until they are age 8, then tell them about the Groms Park Series.

Nine year old Luke Pruski, indy, Craigleith Funnel Park

Snowboarding continues to progress and as always the youngest riders are helping to lead the charge, as they should. Check out the photos and results below from the two most recent Ontario Groms Park Series events held at Beaver Valley and Craigleith, respectively.

Six year old Cameron Spalding, 180, Beaver Valley progression park

The final Grom Series event takes place at Beaver Valley, Friday March 16 (March Break) and is open to any and all riders age 4-15. It will take place in Beaver Valley's Paradise Progression Park.
Justin Islandlake?

According to People, Justin Timberlake just celebrated his 31st birthday at the famed Island Lake Lodge, near Fernie, B.C. A long-time shred who would routinely spend weeks every year in Whistler when he was with Cameron Diaz, we're not surprised he chose one of our favourite catboarding locations to ring in his 31st. But seriously, you've gotta love the cheesy way these People cover things, exclamation points in leads and all:

"Looks like Justin Timberlake loves an adventure! The singer-actor recently rang in his 31st birthday in the rugged back country near Fernie, British Columbia, where he stayed at a local resort, Island Lake Lodge, with a large group of friends for three days. Timberlake and his pals were there for the off-trail snowcat skiing and snowboarding, but there was also opportunity for relaxation."

Wonder if his birthday cake was box-shaped...

Click the image below to read it:

Follow JP and Simon’s season on www.absolutejibberish.com as they each film full video parts that will be available for free download online in the fall.

January 9th, 2012–Vancouver, Canada— JIBBERISH may seem like a catchy, lighthearted name for JP Walker and Simon Chamberlain’s new video project but those that have followed their successful careers know that there is nothing frivolous about these riders’ skills or their dedication to filming. The end goal is to release individual video parts with the kind of quality content that JP and Simon’s fans have grown to cherish. Keeping the site consistently updated with video clips, photos, travel stories, film sessions, guest appearances trials and tribulations will give viewers a deeper look into what it takes to film a video part, and an insider’s look into the lives of their favorite snowboarders. In addition to all the great content that will be run online, there will be a monthly online contest to win gear from Oakley, Nomis, Thirtytwo, Stepchild, Giro, and Etnies

Horseshoe Resort Opening Day

With the mild temperatures and lack of snow in most places most resorts in Ontario have had to push back their opening dates. I was more than stoked when I heard that Horseshoe would still be able to open on Monday December 12th, so finally got my boardin' stuff out of the closet and hit the road. When I got there I was pretty surprised to see that there was more snow than I expected, although most of it was man-made they even had a fun little park set up! At the end of the day we all had a good time doing laps in the sun with our homies. Good work Horseshoe, you guys killed it. Text and photos by Ralph Damman.

Banff Premiere of Sandbox's Day And Age

The new Sandbox film "Day and Age" has its Banff Premiere tonight (Thursday November 3rd) at the Dancing Sasquatch, hosted by the one and only Andrew hardingham. Here's what he had to say about it:

"It is November, the gloomiest month of all. So be prepared to drink the depression away, while watching a few films as the world around you becomes more atractive. Should be quite the show!!!"

Gordon Hall joins Rome SDS Minishreds Team

Rome SDS is pleased to announce the addition of 13 year old phenom Gordon Hall. The grade nine Caledon resident recently got the news of his life when he was picked up and added to the Rome SDS team roster.

This summer, Gordie went from being just another rider at Hockley Valley Resort to the newest member of Rome Snowboards Grom Team. This news was followed by his first trip on a plane... to New Zealand where he trained with his Shreducation team mates for 3.5 weeks.

"The Kid Rules! Straight up talent and stomps like a Champ!" said teammate and Pro Snowboarder Zach Stone.

"He's a funny little guy and doesn't have one ounce of fear," added another teammate Stephen Anderson.

Gordon spends most of his time bouncing around on his trampoline, building contraptions in his back yard and working full time for his dad Robert, sealing driveways during the summer. "He is a perfect example of the new breed of athlete. He dryland trains 4-5 days a week and has a level of focus I have yet to see in a youngster his age," said Coach Jesse Fulton. "We're stoked to take him to the top!"

Gordon was discovered on Facebook by editing and posting his own sponsor me videos, putting them up on the Shreducation and other public fan pages. Ontario Sales Rep, Andrew Burns was the first one to view his video and scooped him up without a second thought. Fulton caught up with Andrew to talk about the sponsorship process so many youngsters dream of. Here's what he had to say:

So where did you see this kid first?
I bumped into Gordon about 3 years ago at a demo at Hockley Valley. He was rocking a jacket 2 sizes too big and riding a board way to big for him (haha).

What was your first Impression?
That he wants it! I guess he was about 10 years old then and he was already down to hit anything and try anything. Also, he was probably one of the nicest kids ever! He felt bad taking more than one sticker!

What is the process of moving forward with something like this?
Gordon sent me his Sponsor Me video in the spring of this year. I hadn't seen him ride in a bit, but once I saw the video I knew I needed to get this kid hooked up. I sent the video to Rome TM and he was amped...the rest is history!

What is the direction for Gordon now?
UP! This kid is going to kill it! Having the opportunity to ride under the Shreducation coaching staff is going to really help him progress into the pro rider he is shaping up to be.

Keep an eye out for Gordon this season rolling with the Shreducation Team at Blue Mountain and around the world.

Gordon also rides for:
686 Outerwear
Arnette
Icarus Skate and Snow
Gyroboard

Camp of Champions "This Is My Camp" Video Contest

The Camp of Champions, Oakley, VitaminWater and GoPro are pleased to sponsor the “This Is My Camp” video contest. With $25,000 in prizing, and lots of ways to win, if you don’t enter you’re crazy. Winning a session at camp has never been easier… except for that time we gave away a session on Twitter. We have prizes not just for the winner, but sub prizes as well, so your chance of winning something is pretty great.

ANY ONE CAN ENTER

The “This is My Camp” is a pretty basic idea: download our footage and edit up a 2.5 minute or shorter video. Start with our opening credit, then you facing the camera, saying your name, where you are from, how old you are and then the term, “This is my camp.” after that, it’s up to you. There are a ton of prizes so get on making your edit.

How You Win

Once you have posted up your video, get your friends to like it on Facebook. The most likes combined with Vimeo stats and our personal opinion on the one we like, wins. The more likes, the more likely you are to win.

Each Video Must Have...

The video needs to start and end with the credits you

DOWNLOAD ALL OUR FOOTAGE HERE

then include your introduction, then get creative. The video can’t be longer than two and a half minutes. Edit up what ever would get you stoked at COC. There can’t be any foul language, in the video or the music. Winners will be chosen December 1st. To enter your video, simply upload it to Vimeo and Youtube, tag it "Camp of Champions" and send us the link so we can download it and post it up here. We will then upload all the videos to The Camp of Champions "This Is My Camp" Vimeo account and then we will track the stats on it. When you upload your video, tag it COC, Camp of Champs, Camp of Champions, Whistler, Summer Camp, VitaminWater, Oakley, GoPro.

All entries become the property of The Camp of Champions.

THE PRIZES

One Grand Prize – Become the COC Film Intern and win “A Mountain of VitaminWater”

The Grand Prize is an intern position at the Camp of Champions in the summer of 2012 as one of our film crew that chronicle everything that goes on at COC. Prize Value: $8,000. If you have skills with a camera and editing, this is the one to go for. It will launch your career, your goggle tan or both. Members of our COC crew have gone on to work with what seems like every company and magazine in the industry. Win this one and you will start living the dream. The prize of “A mountain of VitaminWater” is cases of Vitamin Water stacked up to your nose.

FOUR GRAND PRIZES – GET OUTFITTED BY OAKLEY HEAD TO TOE AND “A MOUNTAIN OF VITAMINWATER”

Prize Includes: Oakley Outerwear Pants, Oakley Outerwear Jacket, Oakley T-shirt, Oakley Hoody, Oakley Goggles, Oakley Sunglasses and an Oakley Beanie. Approx. Prize Value: $2500 each.

TWO GRAND PRIZES - 8 DAY OVERNIGHT CAMP AND “A MOUNTAIN OF VITAMINWATER”

Prize consists of an 8 Day Overnight Camp of Champions session. Approx. Prize Value: $2000 each.

Because there can only be one intern, we created this Grand Prize so that even if you don’t win the Intern position, you still win an awesome prize and get to get your shred on at COC next summer.

4 GRAND PRIZES - 8 DAY “PARK ACCESS ONLY” CAMP AND “A MOUNTAIN OF VITAMINWATER”

Canadians Destroy Nixon Jib Fest

Back from the grave, the Nixon Jib Fest rises to unite past and present jibbing generations. When we last saw this contest go down, two Canadians (Simon Chamberlain, and Chris Dufficy) stood on top. This time around it was a crowded Canadian podium. Louif Paradis, E-Man Anderson and Simon Chamberlain slid one, two, and three into the rider voted rankings. Great work boys.

Here's a teaser for the footage that Nixon will be dropping over the next couple of months. We can't wait to see the rest of it.

2011 Nixon Jibfest Trailer from Nixon on Vimeo.

For Immediate Release
September 19, 2011

THE RETURN OF THE NIXON JIBFEST

An All-Star Cast Assembled for the Triumphant Return

ENCINITAS, CA- The Nixon JibFest is back. What began in 2000 as a secret, invite-only event conceptualized by Nixon riders, Jeremy Jones, JP Walker and Dave Downing, made its grand return to Northstar-at-Tahoe this past April 26-28.

Fifteen hand-selected riders took part in the three day event and included JP Walker, Jeremy Jones, Dave Downing, Joe Sexton, Simon Chamberlain, Seth Huot, Chris Grenier, Louis Paradis, Scott Stephens, Alex Andrews, E-Man Anderson, Laurent-Nicolas Paquin, Zac Hale, Brian Thein and Jon Cooley.

Conversations to create an invite-only event that would elevate the level of riding with custom courses and obstacles first came to Nixon via Jeremy, JP, and Dave in the late 90s. From those early brainstorming sessions, the Nixon JibFest was born. With the expert help of Snow Park Technologies' Chris "Gunny" Gunnarson, the Nixon JibFest has seen its fair share of custom, one-of-a-kind and often feared features, including some of the more known features, as seen in MDP'sStand & Deliver, Decade and The JibFest Documentary films.

Fast-forward eight years since the last Nixon JibFest gathering took place and welcome in the 2011 edition. A new custom course, a new crop of invited riders and a new jibbers playground were the key ingredients in making this year’s JibFest better than ever.

The return did not disappoint. For three days; morning, noon and night, the riders ate, slept and rode JibFest, creating a memorable experience for this A-list crew. All was documented for an upcoming web series to launch later this year on nixonnow.com/jibfest

In the end, through secret ballot voting, the invitees selected Louis Felix Paradis as the overall standout of the 2011 JibFest. Louis also won praise from his peers who also selected him to win “Best Trick” for an Andrecht to fakie over the spine. Not to be overshadowed, E-Man and Simon rounded out the second and third place selections for their skilled riding as seen when it came to the “Wheels of Death.” The “Wheels of Death” allowed invitees to spin two different wheels that would dictate what their next trick would be and which feature would be used for the execution of the trick.

The entire 2011 Nixon JibFest story is featured in the October issue of TransWorld Snowboarding and is on newstands now. Future Nixon JibFest webisodes plus a special three-part Nixon JibFest series of VBS's Powder and Rails will air later this fall. To view the trailer now, for updates about new and fresh content, video exclusives and more about JibFest and the upcoming Powder and Rails series and webisodes, please visit nixonnow.com/jibfest
