It was a close call, but lower temperatures arrived just in time for World Snowboard Day at Blue Mountain, near Collingwood, Ont. on Sunday. Lots of riders came out to hit the boxes and rails installed by Blue Mountain Resort staff earlier that morning and check out the demo tents of Burton, Salomon, Oakley, Spy, Bonfire, O’Neill, Icarus and the Women’s Snowboard Federation, who were all on site with the latest gear and giveaways. It marked the end of a fun opening weekend for Blue, which like all Ontario resorts, had been not-so-patiently awaiting the start of the season.
“We were stoked that winter arrived just in time for World Snowboard Day here at Blue Mountain,” said Erika Langman, events coordinator at Blue Mountain. “Despite the warmer temperatures we’ve received throughout December, our Park & Operations crew were able to pull together some super fun jibs in a terrain park at the top of our Silver Bullet chair. Wide-grins and high-fives were happening all day long.”
