Claudia Avon escaped the icy streets of Montreal seven years ago and made the move to Whistler Blackcomb. Spending the past few season's perfecting her backcountry riding skills and devoting her time to filming, we're happy to see Claudia continually making her mark on women's snowboarding. With the release of her full video part, we caught up with Claudia for a quick Q&A.
Q: What has the highlight from your 2013/14 season?
A: I would have to say it was Tailgate Alaska.
Q: What did you like best about being there?
A: Even though the conditions weren't that great and we were not properly set up to ride out there, we had a blast. The atmosphere was great. We all met awesome people and did a bunch of other activities. It was great to be there in person and see how the backcountry really is. I know exactly what to expect now.
Q: During the off-season how do you get ready for winter?
A: I’m not going to lie. I work a lot in the off season to get financially ready for the winter. To get physically ready, Crossfit Whistler welcomed me on the team. So whenever I can, I follow their program and it’s by far the best way to make sure I'm ready. These guys don’t mess around.
Q: What are you plans for this season?
A: This season I will be working on a project that will capture all aspects of backcountry snowboarding. It will cover the work we do behind the scenes, the danger we are facing and avalanche awareness. I will explain and send a message to people why I snowboard, and why I decided and have committed to live this way.
Q: Who is you favourite person to ride with and why?
A: I’ll say, last season was Kale Stephens. He's an awesome and fun guy. He has lot of knowledge and without knowing it he pushes me a lot. He’s got great energy and he just makes things happen out there.
